CONTRAPASSO was originally intended as a triptych album, with three separate labels each producing a different format. In order to finally unleash the material, the decision has been made to digitally release this iteration of the album via ANNIHILVS.

Although still considered an unfinished work, literally hundreds of hours of material has been parsed through to present CONTRAPASSO VNVS, the product of a recording process that began in 2015 with a completely different intent, and has involved multiple collaborators, many of whom fell by the wayside over the years since recording began.

These tracks feature extensive collaboration with Derek Rush (DREAM INTO DUST/CHTHONIC STREAMS), as well as input from Mike McClatchey (LAMENT CITYSCAPE), Elizabeth Virosa, and Raab Codec of SNOWBEASTS, who in 2022 mixed a selection of nine tracks that comprise the bulk of this release, which are bolstered by additions collected from the abundance of sessions earmarked for this album.

The plan had been to have each of these three collaborators take a turn at mixing one of the three chapters of the triptych, while another handled mastering. It was an ambitious idea, but circumstances ultimately made it not feasible. However, each one has taken part in this arduous journey to create something massive, and the material presented here definitely reflects those efforts.
Additional input from the members of the now-inactive Italian "Occult Psychedelia" act FATHER MURPHY has been part of the album since its very conception, and we are immensely proud to finally give this work an audience after almost ten years.

I cannot praise this album enough. This album is absolutely terrifying! The many starts and stops creates this very h settling tension. Each start expands on the stopper idea previously. It’s like the music equivalent of walking through thick fog while passing out multiple times throughout trying to find a place to orientate yourself. There may or may not be something sinister in that fog, but you don’t want to stick around to find out. Bought the vinyl so I summon the fog demons through spe showhornwithteeth
